Guatemalan mother
acrylic on board
Guatemalan Mother is another in the series on Guatemala and the work of a Rhode Island based relief agency. Here the mother balances a heavy tub of corn on her head as she carries it back to her one room house. She will grind the corn and use it to make the tortillas that she will sell at Noon time to earn the sixty cents a day that was the only regular income for her family of five. The illustration series garnered a portfolio award at the Society of Newspaper Design annual competition that year.
