The Rescue of the S.S. Pendleton
oil on canvas
To commemorate the greatest rescue in their history, the U.S. Coast Guard commissioned me to illustrate the 36 foot surf boat that ventured out of the Chatham station on Cape Cod, Massachusetts fifty years prior to rescue the crew of a sinking tanker in sixty foot seas. It was a thrill for me to meet the brave crewmen personally at the presentation ceremony at the District One Headquarters at the Coast Guard base in Boston.
